WHAT TO SEE
Petralona cave is found on the slope of Katsika mountain about
300 m above sea. A 700 000-year- old skeleton once was discovered
in the cave, among stalactites and stalagmites. Athos Mountain with
its 20 monasteries where no women allowed is also known as the Holy
Mountain. This place is in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The inhabitants here keep Byzantine time and they still use the Julian
calendar.
Archeological museum is located in the administrative center of
Halkidiki Polygyros. It hosts historical and archeological items that were
found on the territory of Halkidiki peninsula. Numerous archeological
sites studded all over the peninsula, among which are the ancient city of
Akanthos, ancient Mendi, Olynthos, etc.
Fragments of Byzantine fortifications in Ouranoupoli, in small village of
Nea Fokea, in the area of Sani. Ancient Stagira, the birthplace of Aristo-
tle, one of the greatest philosophers of ancient times and the teacher of
Alexander the Great as well.
TRANSPORT
It will be easier to get at first to the “Northern capital of Greece” Thes-
saloniki either by airplane, ship or train. And after that you can easily
reach any point of Halkidiki taking a taxi or a bus.
ENTERTAINMENT
The rich land of Halkidiki has a wide choice of resorts and entertainment
able to meet any tastes and requirements of the guests. Here if you wish
you can hide away from the crowd or do the opposite and dive into the
life of a modern cosmopolitan centers like Kalithea in Kassandra. The
choice depends only on your mood and desires. For those who want to

and many other. Otherwise you may play tennis, golf, volleyball, etc.

Furthermore, there is a waterpark “Waterland” in the suburbs of
Thessaloniki with various attractions that will be appreciated by your
children.
